So we skipped passed the first two volcanoes on the way to the third, the more tranquil Ruapehu. There are three main ski-ing areas on this mountain and we went to two of them.Whakappa, pronounced Fakapapa, was the first one we went to it being the closest one on the anticlockwise route we were taking. On the way up to the village there are many waterfalls and gorges.
Then we drove on to the Tawhai Falls which were lovely, nice walk to them too.
On our way back down the mountain, great twisty road by the way, we stopped off at Mangawhero Falls which we accessed just off the main road.
So back to Turangi on the many faceted Desert Road and back to our cabin. Another day out in the sun, I don't think we stayed up once passed 10 o'clock in the evening!
