In our courtyard garden Well what a gorgeous week we have just had and the Olympics to watch too. We have won so many medals and the atmosphere at the Games has been electric so it has been a joy to watch. Phoebe and I have had a busy week as on Monday we headed off to Weymouth to Mum and Cyril's mobile home at the Waterside Park just before you get in to Weymouth. Our first day was lovely and we headed straight to the beach near to the camp, a little bit smelly with quite a bit of seaweed but it didn't put Phoebe off. She made friends straight away with a girl called Grace and they played happily for the next few hours building a dam across the river that runs into the sea and making ponds while I sat and watched! I did help with the dam though of which quite a few 'shod' people were grateful for to cross the ever widening river! We had chips at the beach for lunch, went back via the play park then went in to swimming pool for our first session of the week. She is getting much more adventurous; there are five pools there and two slides and she had lots of fun in the pool where she could touch the floor getting more and more confidence so by the end of our stay, with the aid of goggles, she can now swim without armbands mostly under water but who cares, she is swimming at last. And going down the slides on her own as long as I catch her at the bottom of the slide! Phoebe in the lounge area Phoebe just loves the caravan, her bedroom is pink and perfect for her so thank you Mum for doing that. It is a lovely comfortable place to be and she was just thrilled with all of it. And while we were there she slept like a log, so did I with all the fresh air we had. In the evenings they have a club for children so we went there for the three nights so she could play with more children, dance and join in the competitions. Sadly she wasn't chosen for anything the first night but it didn't spoil her joy and the second night she was the first one on the stage to do a race - she was in the Dolphin team. Tuesday was dull but warm with showers later on so we went to the Sealife Centre which they have improved hugely since the last time I was there and we had a great time looking in all the aquariums, shore pools, watching the baby otters, seals etc. We had a ride on the water slide and got very wet and also on the big swing boat, not good for making you feel a little sick! We went in to the centre of Weymouth on the land train then, ate ice creams and walked over to the old town passed the great Olympic venue they have there. I had forgotten how pretty Weymouth is, it is now all newly painted and spruced up for the Games and looks at its' very Victorian best. Then we went up the newly opened Sealife Tower with 360 degree panoramic views across Weymouth, Portland, Chessel Beach and the surrounding countryside which was just breathtaking. We also had a great view of the finish of the Olympic Windsurfing which was a bonus. After the Tower we went into the Olympic area where they had huge screens up for everyone to sit and watch on the beach and also a great area for children to have a go at sports which they may not have had a chance to play before. Phoebe had a go at the cricket, canoeing, throwing and golf and liked the cricket the best. They gave her a certificate for getting a 'silver' medal in the rowing which she is going to proudly display in her bedroom she says. It was all free and such a good thing to do; the staff were all volunteers and so friendly and encouraging. I would give it 5 stars for all the effort they have put in to it and again we were so pleased just to join in with this fantastic event. Have I said how much I am enjoying all this Olympic stuff!! Can't get enough of it! There were many more sports there too but Phoebe wanted to get back to the Sealife Centre for another hour there so we went over to it by bus. We got back to the Park in time to let Julie and Mike in who were coming to spend the evening with us and go in to the Club to join in the fun. I made dinner then Phoebe played in the soft play area while we won her some more gifts on the twopenny falls, great fun for little money and great excitement when we got a doll, notepad and mini torch for her this time! The entertainers in the Club were great though Phoebe was a little scared of the 6 foot Kangaroo 'Boomer' but we had a lovely time watching her take part in the fun. She had a late night that night but enjoyed herself so much and lovely for her Aunt and Uncle to come and spend some time with us. Well, that was Monday and Tuesday over, we had done so much and we had one more day to come ...............
