It's so hot today and after spending a weekend on my own I'm feeling a little tetchy maybe. Thank you for cheering me up this morning Becky and Phoebe - you make my heart glad xxxx
And Derek has been on his own too albeit in Auckland. This three weeks is going to drag on now but he is home Wednesday evening for a few days before the second more hectic leg of his work and then there will be a big lull and it will be Christmas time.
We are going to go away somewhere, anywhere, as this time of year is bad for me away from everyone so we kind of just forget it's happening on a beach somewhere. We are either going north or south, we are not sure yet. A batch in the Catlins or a yurt in Motueka, both by the sea and one easier to get to than the other but if we wait to book much longer we won't be going anywhere.
So this morning I have had my nose in a good book a Nicholas Evans book called the Brave. I picked it up on Saturday as it rained here and am very sick of tv and got hooked. He wrote the Horse Whisperer so it is one of those books where the characters just jump out at you. Loving it so far.
And after the Post Office (which just happens to be in a book store here called Paper Plus) I drove down the road to Bannockburn as I didn't want to go home straight away to take photos of the California Poppies and thyme that grows along the river bank. The smell of thyme just hits you like a brick wall when you step out of the car - that scent will always remind me of living here.
I also did another block for my butterfly appliqué project from Jacquelynne Steves and her BOM. When the project is all finished I think it is going to look great and can't wait for the next instalment.

Anyway I just want to show you some more photos from our holiday if I may as for our wedding anniversary we went somewhere we had never been on the island of Kauai and that was a boat trip out to the Na'Pali Coast. I think I mentioned before that you can't get all the way round the island as the mountains on the north west are too big and actually make the island a novelty in the fact that you can't get all the way round as on most islands.
Our trip wasn't until the afternoon (we would have had to get up at 5am to go on the morning one which isn't much fun) so we had time to visit other places on the one and a half hour trip down.
So we drove up to the Opaekaa Falls not far from the first place we stayed and in to the high country there.
There were about 60 of us on the boat so not bad and thankfully I had taken two lots of sea sickness pills as a couple of people had their trip ruined because they didn't take anything and they were warned more than once.
We met some very nice Americans on the trip who kept us entertained on the four hour trip.
It was a joy ride out into the ocean - we were in the back of the boat in the open and it was exhilarating - the people at the front got soaked! We didn't see any dolphins on the trip though we did make a detour on the way back as someone thought they did but we saw hundreds of flying fish. What wonderful little things they are, some of them really fly for quite a distance especially when they are being chased by bigger fish which we saw quite a bit. I think I caught some on movie but they were just a blur on photo.
TTFN, lots of love xx
