It's that time of year again and so to the Cromwell Christmas Races for us on Sunday just because it is good fun, we only gamble a few times a year and not very well and it is great to see the locals all done up in their best attire in their Company tents for their Christmas Do's. Suppose this is ours too but as there is only the two of us, not sure it counts in the same way as theirs do. And we don't dress up much either (it's the weekend and Derek is already in shorts and flipflop mode).
We were joined at the rails by a lady and her betting partner from Wanaka who had a boxed tri-fector bet on each race!!!! and she thought we were lucky as they won every race when they stood next to us and went home with a lot of money but then they spent a lot more than we did too. She explained the betting to us and as she was greatly into enjoying herself with her party in her tent we weren't sure how much truth was going on until one of her more sober friends said it was all true and they won over $1,000 - they were going out later to celebrate!!! She was good value though!
Saturday was another of those changeable days we have come to expect here at the weekends but being the first day of Summer we thought it might have been a little better. The wind was in gusts of up to 120kph which wasn't good for my plants but they all came out unscathed - think they are getting more used to it than we are.
We went to Nichols Garden Centre and bought a plum tree, a damson one which are half price here at the mo and also a few other plants including another lavender; I have quite a collection now.
And I will end there with a photo of the 'Hobbit' stamps that I picked up from the Post Office on Wednesday 28th November, the Premier Day of the 'Hobbit' film in Wellington. They had already sold out of the 'Gandalf' $1.90 ones which had been popular that morning with people sending post cards home.
So take care of each other once again, have a good week and wrap up warm all those who need to. TTFN xxxx
