Back outside we walked around the flower gardens which were just lovely.
If we come back in ten years time, I wonder what it will look like then?
TTFN - one more Cornish adventure to go!
So going back to my summer hols I just wanted to carry on with a blog about our day at Eden. It was the main reason for our trip down to Cornwall and we had such a great day out. I first went with Derek when it opened in 2003 which seems eons ago and it has really grown into itself now, the plantings on the hillside have multiplied and grown. The centre looks as if it has always been here, it is so lush and green. And they have buses to take you down from the car parks too now which was very welcome to me although the walk is not long. These wonderful buildings still fill me with awe and hide the fact of how massive they are inside. It was full of families with children and lots of students as it is, after all, a place to come and learn about horticulture, climate change, plant husbandry etc. as well as being a beautiful garden to visit. This structure speaks for itself and is made from all the stuff we throw away and pollute the countryside with. It was Julie's first time here and she loved it. I am so pleased she did as it is a special place to share with her. We went into the Tropical house after walking around some of the gardens which just takes my breath away. I have been lucky enough to see a lot of these beautiful plants in their native countries in the wild so get quite a kick out of the fact that they are growing in humble Cornwall. It got up to 41 degrees at the top of the house where the waterfall starts so we were dripping, literally!! This is a fabulous flower structure hanging from the roof. The detail in them is just gorgeous; spot the fly, bug and spider on the one above. It was also Dinosaur month here for the school holidays with its' own exhibition, great fun for adults and children alike - and evey so often they go for a walk around. Some of the children were scared stiff when this 'dinosaur' appeared among them! Quite life like me thinks! From here we went across the walkway ........ ........ above the restaurant and in to the Mediterranean Section which in comparison to the other dome is hot and dry. Some areas were closed to due reconstruction which was a shame but it was still lovely notheless. This was in the area dedicated to 'wine' and Bacchus -it is all a bit surreal. And there was a lovely Cornish storyteller to entertain everyone too. Back outside we walked around the flower gardens which were just lovely. I took so many flower photos, you get the idea anyway! One more!!! We had a great lunch in the cafeteria which is all made on site then went to another dome, the Geno Dome I think, and from there watched people on the 'death slide' which travels across the whole of the area, looks great fun but not for us today! We had a good seven hours here and the weather was kind to us. If we come back in ten years time, I wonder what it will look like then? So thank you Becky for the lovely present, we are so glad we got the opportunity to go together.
