I didn't do a blog for last week as I thought we hadn't done much. It was a dull weekend; we went house hunting in Cromwell on the Saturday and had a great time with Mira who was showing us round the houses. This one on the left was by far our favourite, gorgeous little Victorian 1912 house, high ceilings, 3 beds one on suite, large lounge-diner and big kitchen-diner sat on 1/4 acre plot but it needed new windows and the clapboard looking at but the whole thing could have been bought and done for £200,000 and in the heart of old Cromwell so nice and peaceful too. Unfortunately for us we fell for it hook, line and sinker but so did another couple who bought it on the Monday while we were deliberating after the property being on the market for 2 years!! Go figure that one out! So, another one bites the dust and I think we are going to have to put this all to bed until after Winter now as with us going away next week to the Cook Islands and staying on the main island of Raratonga and me going away for 8 weeks, there seems no point in going ahead with anything.
We have been back to this one three times now and have driven passed it countless times so there is obviously some kind of pull other that the fact that all our families could build a property on it and still have normal size gardens! Not in this lifetime maybe, we are just too far away for everyone here which is such a shame.
We shopped in Cromwell for food for a change and also stopped at the fruit stalls as usual. Sunday we just stayed home and I made lots of food and started another patchwork. I did Annabel Langbein's choc chip cookies which have a few spoonfuls of condensed milk in them and are THE best cookies I have ever tasted (think you will find them on her blog).
So Saturday we popped over to Greg and Janette's to give them some boxes to help with their packing as they are moving to Quail Rise in two weeks, about 15 minutes drive. They had this house built when they were married and have lived here for 30 years so it is quite an emotional time for them but like they say, nice to get rid of stuff and move on. Their neighbours will miss them too as they have been there just as long.
Thanks to our Queen for her Diamond Jubilee for giving us all the day off tomorrow, we will use the time well and go off and enjoy the day if it is nice. They are busily making snow on the ski fields at night now as they are determined to open soon, the season is supposed to start on my birthday and finish on Derek's, spooky eh? It is going to be very cold overnight all week as we have clear blue skies all around so no warming cloud to keep some heat in.
Thank you for reading my ramblings as usual, take care everyone. TTFN and see you real soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS Just one last shot of the "one that got away".
