OK so we eventually got to Turangi where we were staying where the Tongariro River flows in to Lake Taupo. It is a small community that thrives on its' trout fishing industry so the river is peppered with fly fishermen.
So as the morning had more or less gone in the afternoon we drove up towards the Desert Road to the Pillars of Hercules where the river shoots through and down a chasm, nice place for a walk through the bush too.
Our last stop of the day was at the Trout Hatchery not far from where we were staying and we had a quick half hour looking round as they were closing but had a very nice chat to one of the volunteers there later, a guy from Oregon who keeps coming back to NZ like a yoyo he said.
So that was Saturday and apart from getting dinner at the local supermarket and settling in for the night we had had quite a busy day.
Taupo was the place to spend the afternoon - the town is on the eastern side of the lake towards the top end.
Then we decided to have our treat for the week which was a visit to the Wairakei Terraces, top of my hot list for this holiday.
Right enough for today before I bore you to sleep!
