So after a bit of a change at the airport - we were supposed to be going via Auckland then on to Brisbane but because our flight to Auckland was delayed they put us on a direct flight to Brisbane with Virgin, not bad but it meant a five hour stay in the airport at Qtown so we went for a walk around the shops at Remarkables Park. Not a bad thing, I bought a new top! - we got to Brisbane at 6pm their time (they are 3 hours behind us) and we got in the bus to go get our car, a little Mitsubishi which wasn't brilliant but cheap. Petrol there has gone down to $1.11 which is so cheap, think it is going back up again soon as it can't stay this cheap, wonderful when you are traveling round lots though. The whole trip here with all the mileage we did didn't even cost us 25 GBP!! Amazeballs!!
We woke early at six and got up to explore and this is what was outside our window. Nice pool and hot tub, lots and lots of parrots flying overhead (you'd have had to be up early every day Jules as the birds would have driven you nuts, great alarm clocks!) It was lovely to hear the birds though as we have so few in NZ and so much GREEN stuff. I think we have been colour deprived since December. I never knew there were so many different shades of green! |
The surfing beaches are just around this corner which are totally different from this one, full on surf and miles and miles of golden sand but you can only swim safely on the patrolled strips of beach.
Noosa also has miles of waterways and canals on which sit even bigger and pricier homes (we found this all along this Sunshine Coast too, beaches and waterways and very expensive real estate which made Poole Harbour and Sandbanks look tiny) and a lovely Marina. So with its beautiful beaches, lush green (so green) hinterland, stunning coastal National Park and cosmopolitan lifestyle it is a great place to visit and live in I'm sure.
So we spent the rest of the day swimming and relaxing here, going to Coles to shop for food for the week and exploring the town.
The next morning, Monday - because I can't sit still - we went around the headland to Sunshine Beach and down the coast a little. Sunshine was lovely and we were here by 8 o'clock. We were doing a lot of early to bed and early to rise this holiday.
It was a nice way to spend a few hours and we both love ginger anyway so bought some crystallised stuff before we left. They had loads of products to choose from but because they are so strict bringing products in and out of NZ and Oz we didn't buy anything extra just incase. Don't want to be in a feature program of the Airport sagas they have of 'Old British couple fined for having FOOD in their possession'. As it was I had some ginger left over and declared it at Customs to be on the safe side and all the fella there wanted to do was take the Mickey out of us for loosing to Australia in the cricket at the World Cup this year!!! | I met a lovely local lady here in one of the shops who does quilting and we nattered for ages. Derek found a nice shop to go round so I didn't feel too guilty. They certainly are a friendly bunch in Queensland. |
The glass in this place was absolutely stunning but you needed to take out a mortgage to pay for it.
So very clever though and so vibrant - one of her pieces would look great on a plinth at the end of a coridoor.
