Anyway it was a wonderfully sunny day for the Wanaka Show as always. We have been in and around this event every year for four years and the weather is always beautiful so they are very lucky. They do most of the judging the day before so Saturday is more of a public day.
We stopped first at the sheep dog trials that were being held in the front field. There is so much noise and movement going on everywhere it is no wonder the sheep are jittery but the dogs just keep concentrating as if they are up in the mountains and they do what they do best.
And of course then there is the parade of all the winning animals which is what the show is all about along with the massed piped band from Alexandra.
We went in to the tents where all the judging was done for best veggies, best flowers, jams, knitting, children's art work, quilts etc, you name it it was being judged - there were some beautiful quilts and handicraft displayed, there are some clever people about. This show has a lovely sense of community that only these country shows can bring, everyone out in the sun having a lovely time with family and friends, eating and drinking and enjoying the day. Brings a smile to your face and a hug to your heart. |
We didn't get home until 7pm so it was a long day but so nice. That may well be our last trip to this particular show which makes us sad but hey, there are other shows to go to and I'm sure we will find others that suit us just as well.
We have kept busy this week doing lots of different things, the house is still very clean and the garden well weeded so we have been out for a few walks around town. Five minutes walk brings us to the golf course so from there we go passed the Wooing Tree Winery down to the lake, follow it anti clockwise for a while then come back up through the houses home, about 4.5 miles so a good walk.
They have been having a sale on books of the local area in PaperPlus this week too so we treated ourselves to a few of them; the photos are stunning and we will enjoy reading them this coming winter.
Saturday it was supposed to rain, yesterday, but nothing as I have said and today is forecast the same so it is just warm and dull. So yesterday I was in a cooking mood so before lunch I made a roast vegetable and tomato sauce, a dozen meatballs and four beef burgers and prepared a beef stew for later today. Planning is all well and good but I made too many meatballs for one meal and too much sauce so the beef burgers we were going to have for lunch today will have to wait until Monday and I will have to do something with the left overs instead, not a bad situation to be in though. My carrots have done well so I am pulling them up now to use so they are going in everything chopped or shredded and they just taste so nice. I have loads of seed left and as there is no point taking any of my seeds with me I may as well clear the veg beds in the next few weeks and plant all the saved seeds out for the next person.
I was up late talking to Julie last night which was nice, good to talk to you sis and thank goodness you are looking a lot better than earlier in the week as is Becky who hopefully will be fixed when she has her wisdom teeth taken out at Easter. Deb has just whatsapp'd to say they are just on their way home after a lovely holiday, Clare is away with Ryan for a weekend b'day treat in London, hope you have a great time and Jamie and family are still in Mexico on holiday.
So Happy Birthdays this week to Greg for the 15th, Clare for the 17th and Ella tomorrow for the 23rd.
Our family is growing and so diverse with people we love scattered all over the place so big hugs and love wherever you are right now.
Keep safe.
