So he hopped off that plane and jumped on to another with a more daring pilot who eventually got them down two hours later! I watched them come in along with half the airport as you can see the descent quite well and after a couple of goes at trying they had final go and came in sideways much to joy and clapping in the airport and screams and clapping in the plane Derek said. I like it when he is on the ground but the whole thing unphases him.
So three hours later than expected we were home and because I had time to kill (it is too far to go home and come back again) I went shopping and bought a couple of T-shirts and some PJ bottoms. Derek feels much better now thank goodness and his stitches have healed well. He just has to remember that he still can't haul the logs in from the garage, that's my job for now.
Since then we have had a quiet weekend for the Queens Birthday, everyone has a 'bank holiday' here today so it is all eerily quiet on the roads.
We did venture out yesterday though to go to a book sale - seven books later - and to take some photos in the fog.
staying in just makes me cook and then you have to eat it. I did do a great sour cream and marmalade cake from Rachel Allen the other day which is so nice.
Set your oven to 180 deg C and grease and line a 20cm diameter high round tin.
You will need:-
200g butter (at room temp)
200g caster sugar
2 LARGE eggs
200mls sour cream
zest of 1 orange (and juice it)
300g PLAIN flour
2 tsps Baking Powder
For the glaze:
Juice of the orange and 100g rough cut Marmalade
Cream the butter and sugar together until soft and pale then ADD the eggs one at a time. Then add the zest of the orange (I added a tsp of cardamon at this time too as I love it with oranges). Mix.
Then STIR in the sour cream and mix thoroughly before adding the sifted flour and baking powder. Fold in gently until combined.
Put the mix into the tin, level off and cook for 40 - 50 MINS.
While the cake is cooling, heat together the orange juice and marmalade until it is 'sticky' then while the cake is still warm, brush it over the top of the cake.
Have a piece warm as it is lovely :)
We have had Rachel Allen's Cake series on TV so I have taped them all. The ingredients are shown on the screen so if you tape the program you can get it all written down for when you have time to make the recipes which is great.
And I moved the furniture round in the lounge too - a case of watching too many house programs at the moment and I think I am addicted to them, especially the two Canadian twin brothers. Love their program!
HAPPY 9TH BIRTHDAY TO KACEY for this week - my goodness that time has flown by. Would love to give you a big hug for your birthday. Hope the sleep over went well.
