Last Saturday Julie, Becky and I went to Wisley Gardens near Woking in Surrey. We have wanted to go for many years and picked the most perfect day for it, sunshine, warmth and blue skies. We were even lucky with the traffic for a Saturday and sailed there and back with no holdups whatsoever. So it was just meant to be! One off the bucket list for Julie. It really is one of the nicest gardens I have ever been too and is vast. We walked over 11 kms and didn't see half of it! Julie was quite emotional at the long borders. She says she remembers Alan Titchmarsh talking about them twenty years ago on Gardeners World and has wanted to visit them ever since. If you have ever been lucky enough to see them you would understand when you love gardening as much as we do. The flowers are stunning, all beautifully looked after and healthy and all labelled so you know what you are looking at and with knowing what they are you can just go ahead and order some for your own garden! Or buy them at their incredibly well stocked nursery! I bought one of the lovely scented purple/blue salvias above and it is now holding pride of place in my new long border at home! The gardens have lots of different areas, woodland, Trial gardens, alpine, roses, orchards, kitchen garden - on and on it goes. The Hot house is just lovely. Here are just a few of the plants in it. Becky especially loved it in here and Phoebe would have loved the hibiscus. My favourite borders were going down to the Glass house - we'd stopped by the orchards on the way to name another area and stopped for a cuppa too. These borders held more 'prairie' type flowers, lots of whites, blues and purples and my favourite cone flowers. Just let me indulge in another rolling gallery of photos. I just love 'em!! Another please! The Trial gardens were good only spoilt by the noise from the A3 but thats OK. Becky found lots of calla lilies here in every colour imaginable - I loved the huge row of agapanthus. And Julie ........................ .................. well she just loved everything. She even wore a skirt with hibiscus on to 'blend in' and a little girl later on thought it was lovely and gave her a hug! The veggie garden was good too. Hopefully next year mine will look like this! In my dreams! See! I was there - having lunch in the woods where the azaleas etc were. And another of Julie just cos I love to see her so happy xxx And content after a long day. We will go again one day. We have a new addition to the family - welcome Dory our new Smart car, well Derek's new car really. She is very sweet, lovely to have the roof down and fits on the drive perfectly. He might let me drive her one day as long as I don't change the driving position. Phoebe was the first passenger and loved being in the front seat! We've had some lovely days with her and Derek and she have ridden on just about every road round here. They are certainly fitter this year and Phoebe is full of confidence on the roads now. She and friend Brooke have gone on a ride down to the beach today. As I mentioned in my last blog the 'album' project is progressing. I still have a long way to go with it so it is very much a 'work in progress'. Another slideshow. Kathy and Greg came for tea the other evening. We don't see enough of them as they are busy at work all the time so enjoy them when we see them. Their baby is growing fast and making himself known and it won't be that long until he is here. And tomorrow is Cyril's birthday so Happy Birthday to you. Julie and I are going to pop over to say HI. So a last photo to show you Derek digging our new widened border - it is going to take a while to fill it but I bought lots of seeds in Wyevales sale so watch this space next Spring. One more indulgence then I'll say bye for now.
